Arizona Public Service (APS) is one of the largest and longest-serving electric utilities in the state.

Founded 5 years after Tombstone’s gunfight at the OK Corral, APS generates safe, affordable and reliable electricity for more than 1.2 million retail and residential customers in 11 of Arizona’s 15 counties.

APS’ corporate vision is to create a sustainable energy future for Arizona. The use of innovative smart technologies, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency are key components of their efforts to meet that vision; and the utility continues to meet customer needs through innovation and excellent service.

Seidman has provided several research and consulting services to APS.  These include:

  • The development of an integrated utility-scale solar impact tool (AZ SMART), taking into account siting, environmental and economic factors;
  • Quantifying the economic impact of APS operations on state and local geographies;
  • Measuring the economic impact of Four Corners Power Plant and Navajo Mine, individually and in aggregate, for the State of New Mexico and San Juan County in 2011;
  • Quantifying the number of solar jobs within the state in 2013;
  • Estimating the economic impact of Four Corners Power Plant and Navajo Mine, individually and in aggregate, for the State of New Mexico, San Juan County and the Navajo Nation for the 2016-2041 time horizon, based on the assumption that Units 1-3 at the Power Plant are no longer in operation;
  • Critiquing previous studies and best practice relating to net metering in the United States;
  • Estimating the impact of a distributed generation net metering program for the State of Arizona, 2016-2035;
  • Estimating the economic and fiscal impacts of the Clean Energy for a Healthy Arizona proposal on APS and the state’s public utility sector, 2018-2060.
